The Great Loop Part 2

The Great Loop Part 2

Leaving from Canyon City, our journey into New Mexico unfolded with breathtaking vistas of sweeping landscapes and snow-capped mountains. Our first destination, Taos, welcomed us with its vibrant atmosphere and a plethora of activities. However, our plans took an unexpected turn as a snowstorm swept in overnight. Prioritizing safety, we opted to leave our RV parked and rented an all-wheel-drive car to navigate the wintry conditions.

Taos proved to be a treasure trove of delights, from niche shopping to culinary delights. For an unforgettable breakfast experience, Michael's Kitchen Restaurant and Bakery stole the show with its delectable offerings despite the bustling crowds of locals.

Setting our sights further north, we embarked on a scenic loop leading us through iconic ski towns such as Red River and Angel Fire, each offering its unique charm and allure.

The following morning, as the snow began to clear, we continued our journey southward, passing through Albuquerque en route to Flagstaff, Arizona. Taking our time to savor the journey, we made frequent stops along Highway 40, immersing ourselves in the beauty of the surrounding landscapes.

Arriving in Flagstaff, we found camping at the Flagstaff KOA, eager to explore the town's hidden gems. One such gem, often overlooked by visitors, is Walnut Canyon National Monument. Just a short drive from Flagstaff, this awe-inspiring canyon beckons with its ancient cliff dwellings and scenic hiking trails. Remember to pack ample water and sturdy hiking shoes for this adventure!

Downtown Flagstaff, adorned with historic buildings converted into quaint shops and eateries, invites exploration. With RV parking conveniently located within walking distance, we spent an afternoon indulging in the local culture through culinary delights and shopping excursions.

Flagstaff proved to be a destination brimming with charm and adventure, extending far beyond the confines of the Grand Canyon. I highly recommend allocating a day or two to fully immerse yourself in its wonders, from natural marvels to cultural treasures.
